Everyone always loves them…but would I really even recommend Gel X nails to a friend? After 3+ years of getting these bad boys glued to my real nails, let’s break it down, shall we?

Gel-X nails are a type of extension system that uses soft gel tips adhered with a gel adhesive. They provide a lightweight and flexible alternative to traditional acrylic or hard gel extensions, offering a comfortable and natural-looking result. I only opt for these, so I can’t compare to others except the days when I used to get acrylics (now 10+ years ago!)

In terms of longevity, acrylic nails boast impressive durability. Rarely do I experience chipping or breaking; Gel X nails are known for lasting weeks without a hint of wear and tear. Personally, I keep mine for about a month, sometimes even extending to 2 months!

Moving on to aesthetics, the obvious pro lies in their appearance. I get so many compliments on the daily. Gel-X nails offer the freedom for stylish and intricate design choices that can be challenging to achieve with natural, shorter, more brittle nails. Personally, I find it challenging to replicate such a flawless look on my own. I particularly enjoy experimenting with chrome, neon, or crystal embellishments – it’s my form of self-expression as a Venus in Leo.

The downside hits hard when it comes to keyboards. While these nails can make a bold statement, they can also majorly impede my typing speed. Personally, it takes me way more time to type, necessitating the use of non-slip keyboard pads. Is it worth it, though? I think so. Adjusting to the added length and thickness may take some time, and precision tasks like typing could feel a bit clumsy initially.

Considerations regarding UV light also come into play. Gel X nails are typically cured with ultraviolet (UV) light, which may raise concerns about potential UV exposure. Nevertheless, this is often a minimal concern if one is diligent about sunscreen and UV protection.

Another drawback is the cost. The saying “beauty comes at a price” holds VERY true for Gel X nails. This glamorous manicure option can be expensive, especially factoring in the costs of initial application and maintenance. Personally, I allocate around $80-100 for a full set per month, with an additional $20 for chrome or other embellishments.

So there you have it, that’s my Gel X nails lowdown! They’re a great option for those who crave long-lasting, beautiful, and highly customizable nails. However, be prepared for a little adjustment period, and don’t forget to budget for the occasional salon visit. In the end, it’s all about what makes you feel fantastic! I love mine, they’ve become a statement piece.
