Looking for the perfect pink drink that doubles as the newest trend in tequila? I recently tried Casa Rica Rosado at a tasting – and (apparently), this is the first and only agave tinted rosado tequila on the tequila market! This unique pink tequila is made by Casa Rica, who has perfected a process that uses the mash (pink-colored heart of the agave) to tint their tequila – instead of the traditional wine barrel process that other pink-hued tequilas use.

As its popularity grows, they are looking into ways to protect this unique process (which piqued my interest as an intellectual property attorney). So let’s explore what makes this pink tequila so special!
A New Type of Tequila
Casa Rica pink tequila tasting rosadoCasa Rica Rosado is a revolutionary new type of tequila, according to its founders. Made from 100% blue agave, it has an unmistakable light pink hue that sets it apart from other brands. The rosado color comes from a mash tinting process developed by Casa Rica, making this tequila the first of its kind. Because of this innovative distilling process, one could assume that other companies are looking at how to replicate it legally since there is evidently a high demand for pink-hued tequilas. But in the meantime, Xandra, Casa Rica’s Head (female, woohoo!) Distiller is helping them crank out these pretty bottles of pink drink.
Tastes Like…Tequila.
With all the hype around a “pink drink”, you’re probably wondering what it actually tastes like. Does it taste different from regular tequila? Short answer…no. The pink hue doesn’t add any flavor to the tequila. This is according to one of the founders we met at the tasting at Neuehouse in the Bradbury building. Not going to lie, kind of wish it did. We taste-tested three different Rosados that day – and the others did get their pink tint from wine-barrel aging…which did give them a bit of a different taste that was notable.

But even without the added hint of pink, this is still a solid tequila. Its flavor profile (similar to some other tequilas) offers “a juicy crisp” taste, making you feel like you’ve taken a trip south of the border without leaving your home. It could pair perfectly with lime or grapefruit juice for an aromatic cocktail…or just drink it on its own…it sure is pretty enough!
Aesthetically Pleasing Treat To Try
Considering the pink hue doesn’t add any flavor, Casa Rica Rosado may have been designed to catch the eye of its drinker. But don’t let its color fool you. It is refreshingly sweet yet still packs a punch at 40% ABV. The perfect choice for summer days poolside, a bachelorette, at themed party, or even just a night out on the town with friends, Casa Rica Rosado provides a unique treat for consumers who love tequila but want something different than what is usually offered in bars and restaurants across America.
