Ok I wasn’t gonna get this personal but here we are. I breastfed Lenny for three months, stopped for my mental health, and somehow ended up with breast milk jewelry I now wear all the time. Stick with me.
Motherhood comes with this invisible rulebook where you’re supposed to push through, ignore what you need, and keep going until you’re running on fumes and guilt. Choosing to stop when I did was me finally paying attention to what my kid actually needed, which was a mom who wasn’t falling apart.
Taking care of myself was taking care of her too. Took me a while to believe that. Writing it now, it still lands a little tender.
The season was short but it still meant everything.
I was an undersupplier, so every single ounce felt like a tiny miracle I had to protect. I did everything I could while I was in it, pumping, tracking, freezing whatever I managed to save because I could not bring myself to let it go. That little freezer stash was a blur: early days with Lenny, the exhaustion that rearranged my whole brain, the learning curve, the middle-of-the-night bonding nobody photographs.
So when I found out breast milk jewelry existed, I audibly said WHAT out loud in my kitchen. Mind fully blown. 🤯 And the timing tracked, because I was already quietly restocking my “fancy mama” drawer. The new clothes that actually fit my postpartum body, the lash extensions I finally caved on, all the little things that were slowly making me feel like myself again just…mama version. Breast milk jewelry felt like the most meaningful thing I could add to the pile. Permanent, sentimental, fully mine.
Wait, breast milk jewelry?? Explain.
Yeah. It’s exactly what it sounds like, and once I sat with the idea for two seconds I got why people are obsessed. Breast milk is kind of magical when you think about what it does.
I watched it feed Lenny. I watched it clear up her little baby scratches, and mine too when I got desperate (Google it, breast milk is unhinged in the best way). Something about being able to keep a piece of that forever hit me right in the chest.
I wanted a way to carry that chapter with me. Not tucked in a freezer I’d eventually have to clean out, but something I could actually wear.
How I found Milk Couture Co., my breast milk ring, (and Cait, who I now adore)
That search led me to Milk Couture Co. and to Cait, the owner, who might be one of the sweetest humans I’ve interacted with as a customer. She’s what a small business should feel like. Communicative, thoughtful, clearly obsessed with getting every detail right for each person she works with. Every piece feels personal because it literally is. You can feel the care in it.
The breast milk jewelry pieces I chose:
I went with the Evangeline ring, the Anastasia ring, and the Celeste huggies, and I’m smitten with all three. They look timeless. Nobody would ever clock them as anything other than gorgeous fine jewelry, which is part of what makes it feel like a little secret I get to keep.
The customization is where it got really fun. You design your piece down to tiny details like birthstones, shimmers, and inclusions, so no two are the same.
For mine I added pink spinel for Lenny’s August birthstone, plus aurora luster, pearl shimmer, and Ethiopian fire opal. Those little choices turned it into something that feels stitched to my actual story. It’s pretty jewelry, duh. It’s also a keepsake from a season that took a lot out of me and handed a lot back.
I love them so much…I may or may not have recently ordered some new rings!
Quick reality check for anyone in their feelings about buying breast milk jewelry…
I don’t care if you breastfed for years, a few months, a couple weeks, or one single overwhelming day, it counted. If you did a hard thing for however long you managed, your effort was real. Your body did something wild. That deserves to be remembered however you want to remember it.
And if wearing a piece of it sounds like your kind of thing, breast milk jewelry is such a beautiful way to hold onto it. Not just the feeding part, but everything that came wrapped up in it.
You did the thing, mama. You get to keep a piece of it forever.
Did you keep a freezer stash you don’t know what to do with, or is this the first you’re hearing that milk jewelry exists? Tell me in the comments, I want to know if I’m the only one who is this obsessed. If you want to make your own, check them out here.
